Nestle and Jenny Craig in Bed Together!OK...here is an interesting merger. Nestle (famous for it's chocolate) is going to buy Jenny Craig (famous for it's weight loss program).
Nestles is putting up $600 million for Jenny Craig and just last month the chocolate-maker purchased Uncle Tobys (an Australian maker of nutritional cereals and snacks). Nestle is the world's largest food and drinks company and also makes baby formulas, nutrition foods and drinks to aid weight loss as well as the Lean Cuisine food line.
Now you can buy chocolate, eat all you want, get fat, and then join a weight loss program all from the same company!
So what do you think of this deal -- what's next -- cigarette makers selling cancer preventing drugs?

The cigarette companies are already advertising Stop Smoking campagins - and have plunged millions of dollars into programs to keep Teens from even starting smoking - so that's not a new concept.
I think Nestle may be diversifying their portfolio. They probably saw a downward trend in their candy sales - saw an opportunity to purchase jenny Craig - and took it. Currently - Nestle as a Corporation is much more than it's chocolate and candy sales too. The most recent thing that comes to mind is Carnation formula for babies.
I work for a company that owns both Ben & Jerry's and SlimFast. I think they are just trying to buld BOTH businesses!
Re: tobacco companies, the only reason they run those ads is because they were forced to as part of the class action suits against them. They diversified in the 80s to ensure that they wouldn't go out of business.
