Many changes have been made to improve airport security since 911, but I still get butterflies in my stomach everytime I have to fly! I used to enjoy looking out the window of the plane and taking in all the beauty of the clouds and the earth far below! Now I spend my time in flight observing the faces of the other passengers trying to figure out who may be a terrorist!
Oh, let's not forget about all the time I spend praying while I am traveling!
Let me know how you feel about flying these days. Please leave a comment.

When I was a kid, flying didn't bother me at all. As I got older, I did get more uncomfortable with it. A few years ago I moved from California to Texas. My family is still in CA, and I visit them a few times a year. Driving there and back would eat up too many days I'd rather spend with them, so I fly. 9/11 hasn't had any personal effect on me. I flew several times in the months following 9/11 - once for a trip in October with tickets I'd bought 2 days before 9/11. I worry about taking off and landing. I worry about a bird flying into the engine. I worry about the wings icing over. Terrorists, oddly enough, are the things I worry the least about.
The fact is, with all the flights landing and taking off every day, very very few crash. And really, almost none off those crash because of terrorist activity. I can only remember 5 planes crashing because terrorists - the 4 on 9/11 and the Pan Am flight near Lockerbie.
And when it comes to terrorism and the money we spend on it, look at it this way. How many lives are lost to terrorism every year? How many are lost to murder, accidents, and natural disasters?
Terrorism is real, sure. But it's also a lot of hype. That's why it's TERRORism. There are far scarier things that are more likely occur that they don't talk about on the news every day.
